10-18-2013: I agree Whitney, however the research is indicating that more and more middle school students are not making the benchmark cut scores. It might be something to look into within your district. I also think a lot of middle school and high school issues are completely different than that of an elementary student. Thanks for the input.

10-19-13: My building is making attempts this year to have an intervention block, though my role in the intervention block is to support on of my students while his para goes to lunch. Its also the time he has to drink his pedisure (medical needs) so the entire focus is not on academics. It was will be interesting to see what RTI looks like in my building by spring. Miranda

I agree. Our superintendent shared this video with the whole staff in August as the Back to School round-up. I thought it was pretty powerful and provoking!

What are your current thoughts about implementing Response to Intervention? How far along are you in the process at your school?
I thought it was a great ideas as I was learning about it at USD while I was in undergraduate school. As of right now, I teach 7th grade math and language arts, so it really does not have a direct affect on me at this current moment. I also am not sure where my school is currently at with it. However, if I do go back to lower elementary, I will do my best to implement it. ~Whitney

I completely agree with what she had to say about relationships. It is so important for teachers to build those trusting relationships with their students because the students are not going to want to learn from you if they do not like you, which is so true because I have seen it before. I know how important it is to build relationships, so that is one of the things I focus on the first part of school as well as continuing it on throughout the year. My students are always telling me that I am their favorite teacher, and they always seem to be having fun in my classroom while still getting their work done. Students should have fun while learning otherwise they are not going to want to do it, so yet it all starts with their relationships with the teacher. ~Whitney
